September 17th saw the Blue Jackets in action twice, while one group was playing against the Sabres at home, another was battling it out in Minnesota. The group in Minnesota fared much better than the group at home though, they were propelled to victory by goals from Ryan Johansen, Cam Atkinson, and Mark Letstu. Jeremy Smith led the way in goal, saving all but one of the twenty-one shots faced.

James Wisniewski was the lone goal scorer for the Blue Jackets, and newly acquired Keith Ballard scored for the Wild. Bobrovsky played in the net for CBJ and faced twenty-seven shots on goal. Josh Harding recorded the win for Minnesota.
