Buffalo Sabres

Sabres 3  Blue Jackets 1

The second home game of the preseason was against the Buffalo Sabres on September 17th. Buffalo’s Marcus Foligno, younger brother of Nick, scored two goals to lead the Sabres past the Blue Jackets. R.J. Umberger scored a goal for Columbus in the second period to make it 1-1, but it wasn’t enough to get past Buffalo. Mike McKenna and Sergei Bobrovsky shared time in the net, McKenna had one goal against, and Bobrovsky was scored on the other two times. The Sabres first round draft pick from 2012, Mikhail Grigorenko, scored the third goal for the Sabres in the third period.

Just two days ago on the 25th of September the Blue Jackets were shutout by the Sabres in Buffalo. Jhonas Enroth stole the show in net, and Ville Leino, Mikhail Grigorenko, and Zemgus Girgensons all scored for the Sabres to push them past Columbus. BlueJackets.NHL.com had this to say in the game recap…

"On the bright side, the Blue Jackets got quality goaltending from both McKenna and Jeremy Smith, who entered the game in the second period, essentially splitting time with McKenna. Those two guys are under a little more pressure now with Curtis McElhinney out of the lineup (lower body), potentially leaving the opening night backup goalie spot open for one of them."
