Bold Prediction #5: Kent Johnson is traded away for a bounty of futures.

Prediction by Struan McNevan

Kent Johnson remains a polarizing player for the Blue Jackets. Despite his immense talent and a very productive 2024-25 season, he seems to be the obvious piece for the team to move if they want to upgrade their top-six.

But, to Struan's point here: what if he wants a change of scenery and they have to pivot to make the best of it, as they did in the case of David Jiricek?

The two have had vastly different career paths so far, but it might make sense for the Blue Jackets to get the biggest return they can for him, while his value is still pretty high after one very productive season was followed up by a horrible one. That's possible

However, with that said, the team's coaching staff and management had nothing but positive things to say about Kent after the season. I'm not sure we're to the point of trading him away just to try something different, quite yet.

Of course, anything can happen.

Bold, but predictable?

Over the years I have been a contributor for Union and Blue, we have done our best to make the boldest predictions. Of course, we usually fall flat on our face and completely whiff on all of them. I suppose that's what makes them bold, after all.

But, it also makes us predictable. If you've made it this far into the article, cheers! We'll post a review of these before the start of the regular season. Which will be right around the time we'll make some more bold predictions.
