The Columbus Blue Jackets win over the Arizona Coyotes sent them on a roller coaster ride up the Metropolitan Standings.

Its been tight all year long in the Metro but last nights volatility was just the beginning of what we should get used to. The Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday shot them from 5th in the standings to 2nd place.

Due to the ultra-competitive nature of the Metro standings the Jackets better get used to these massive change in standing position. Washington has put some distance between them and the rest of the division with a six point lead on Columbus for first. But the rest of the seven teams are separated by five points.

The New York Islanders currently sit in 7th in the division, out of the playoffs at the moment. But they are only two points behind the Jackets for second. It can turn that quickly. Take a look.

All it takes is one game and the Jackets can go from home ice in the first round to playing golf in April. 32 games left for the Columbus Blue Jackets to go up and down on this roller coaster.

Metro February

This up and down in the standings is going to keep on especially in February. The Jackets will come back from the break to play 10 out of 13 games in February against the Metro. These games will be huge for the Jackets.

They won’t necessary eliminate the Jackets from the playoffs if they don’t perform well. But if they don’t win a chunk of these games in regulation, they will be on the downward slide of the standings rollercoaster.

But if they play well they could put themselves in a place to win the division. The Columbus Blue Jackets have a back-to-back against the Washington Capitals that with regulation wins could put them in first place. They also play two games against the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils each.
