Background Story: The Avalanche ended up with the first overall pick in the 2013 Draft, where they selected Nathan MacKinnon. It will be interesting to see how the team that under performed last season bounces back in 2013-14. Of particular interest to Ohio and Cleveland viewers is that the Avalanche are the parent club for the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters.

Star Power/Personnel: The Avalanche were not expected to be as bad as they were last season. Gabriel Landeskog won the Calder Trophy during the 2012-13 season. While not ranked among the NHLs elite, Matt Duchene is a threat on offense and an exciting player to watch. Of particular interest to Lake Erie fans there is Patrick Bordeleau, Tyson Barrie, Brad Malone, Stefan Elliot, and several other players who have spent time in Cleveland. The only former Jacket on the Avs is Jan Hejda.

Aesthetics: Let’s face it, the Avs have some of the worst uniforms in the NHL.
