1) Depth

The Blue Jackets are going into this upcoming season with a lot of options pertaining to lines, and NHL ready/experienced players ready for action if need be, which only means one thing, John Davidson and Jarmo Kekalainen did a great job adding some depth to the team. Which is one reason why the Blue Jackets will make the playoffs this season.

Last year Columbus added Blake Comeau at the trade deadline, Comeau might not be a guy who is going to get back to scoring 24 goals and having 22 assists for 46 points like he did in the 2010-11 season, but he will be a strong asset to the team and could potentially fill in on the top two lines if need be.

Jack Skille, who was added to the squad over the summer, is another guy who adds depth to the offense. He has proved that he can produce at the AHL level, and has shown potential in the NHL. I think he needs the right fit on the right team, which I have a strong feeling can be the Blue Jackets.

Lets not forget the rookies and prospects that the Blue Jackets seem to have begun to stack up. Ryan Murray and Boone Jenner lead the charge in this category. If they don’t make the opening night roster, they will certainly be available to the team during the year, and will be gaining valuable experience at the AHL level in the meantime (that again is if they don’t make the team).

Those are just a few examples of the organizational depth that the Blue Jackets have stock piled to help throughout the long season, because lets face it, injuries are going to happen, and Columbus goes into this season prepared.
