The Blue Jackets got a little bit of player development news out of Russia today, as it has been reported that 2025 first round draft pick Pyotr Andreyanov has been loaned to Sochi for this coming season. This is good news for the goaltending prospect, who gets a clearer path to playing time.

Over the summer, we ranked Andreyanov as the second-best prospect in the entire organization. But as talented as he is, at just 19 years old, the path to ice time in the KHL is long. Especially when you're developing with the famed CSKA Moscow program.
Look at last year as an example. Pyotr's time was split between the VHL (Russian tier-2 pro) and the MHL (Russian junior), where he got a combined 39 games played. I don't think this year would be too much different within the CSKA system.
At best, he would probably be hoping for more VHL time than his 13 games last year allowed. So, it's great news that he gets placed on loan to Sochi, where he could even see time in Russia's top league-the KHL.
Not the first time we have seen this scenario.
We have seen this play out before. In fact, pretty recently. The third ranked prospect on our summer list, Sergei Ivanov, went through this exact process just two seasons ago. He was loaned to the same team.
In one season with Sochi, Ivanov went 11-23-1, posting a .911% save percentage, 3.00 goals against average, and 3 shutouts. His 38 games played that season smashed his previous career high in the KHL, which was only 5 with St Petersburg. He then returned to his home club the following season (last year), ready to take on a larger role.
Look for Andreyanov to do something similar this year. While it's hard to call him Sochi's starting goaltender, the path to getting KHL time is a little easier, because Sochi is traditionally one of the worst teams in the league.
If nothing else, maybe he will learn what it's like playing behind a team like the Blue Jackets...
We will be watching Pyotr's development closely, wherever he gets his starts. He may have the highest ceiling of any player currently in the Blue Jackets prospect pool.
He's still under contract with CSKA for another four years, including this one. So, he's a longer-term prospect, but an exciting one to say the least. He looks every bit the part of a high end starting goaltender at his peak, which could be close by the time he eventually does come over to North America.
