Just two days after being nominated for the Masterton Trophy, Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner has been selected as a candidate for another major NHL award.

The captain was nominated for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy this morning. This trophy is awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice, as well as making a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community.

Boone has served as captain of the Blue Jackets since the 2021-22 season. During his time in that role, he's helped his team forge through some of the toughest moments in franchise history. Really, some of the toughest moments of any team in NHL history.

He definitely meets the requirements for leader on and off the ice, which is plenty to qualify him as a candidate for this award. But outside of hockey, Boone has been an even greater contributor and ambassador for the city of Columbus.

Any time the team holds a public event, you can always find #38 involved. He's proud to be a Blue Jacket, and has always been one of the friendliest, most approachable players throughout his career here.

He also helped launch "Boone's Buddies" this season, which supports children and families navigating medical challenges. This program works in conjunction with the Ronald McDonald House, and helps bring these families from Nationwide Children's Hospital to Blue Jackets games.

Boone then spends time with these families, taking photos, sharing stories, and helping take their minds off of the heavy situations they are dealing with.

None of this is a requirement under his NHL contract. I think it's pretty special to have a guy that is this dedicated and involved in the community on our side.

Every team selects a nominee for this award. We may be biased here at Union & Blue, but Boone would absolutely get our vote. You would be hard pressed to find someone who does more for their community than Boone Jenner.

We hope Boone can win some hardware, but we want to see him have success in Columbus before he retires.

Through everything that has happened with this team both on and off the ice during his time here, he has remained an amazing ambassador for the organization. Hopefully, his loyalty, hard work and dedication to helping grow the game in Columbus is rewarded with some hardware this summer.

But, more importantly, we hope he's rewarded by returning as a leader for this team when they finally do take the next step forward. He deserves the chance to be a winner with the Blue Jackets.
