Cam Atkinson was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets and is one of the few home-grown key players on the roster.

Cam Atkinson has become one of the all-time best Columbus Blue Jackets, simply through hard work and continuous growth as a player. Last night against the Vegas Golden Knights, Atkinson passed the 30 goal mark for the second time in his career with over 25 games left in the season. It’s almost guaranteed he’ll set a career high this season, assuming he stays healthy.

Atkinson was drafted by the Blue Jackets in sixth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and his loyalty to the team never seemed to waiver at all through that time. Although, there were periods of time when it seemed like the team may look to move him.

He’s one of the most underrated players in the NHL, and has been for quite a while. He’s finally starting to gain some national recognition, however it’s too little too late at this point. Atkinson is almost like the glue of the Columbus Blue Jackets, without him everything would fall apart, however he makes sure everything stays together even when odds are against him.

His performance last night against the Golden Knights showed exactly why the Blue Jackets need more Cam Atkinsons, he single-handedly willed the team back into a win with a play that seemed nearly impossible to pull off, and determination to get his second of the night to get the game winning goal.

Cam Atkinson is loyal, determined and has a seemingly unmatched work ethic despite everything being stacked against him. By the time things are all said and done, at this rate Atkinson may pass Rick Nash and Sergei Bobrovsky as the greatest Columbus Blue Jacket to step on the Nationwide Arena ice. He may also be the only one of the three to be a career Blue Jacket.
