Joonas Korpisalo has had a fairly decent start to 2019 for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Joonas Korpisalo had a 2018 to forget despite picking up wins for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He gave up a lot of goals on not too many shots while making it difficult to win without scoring 5 goals a night.

He may have had a three goals against game last night against Nashville, however it’s much more acceptable when he makes over thirty saves. In the past he had given up three or four goals on only twenty shots, which was a massive problem.

It’s also worth mentioning, Nashville is a very strong team and giving up three goals against them doesn’t mean he played a bad game. The Predators are an annual contender and as a result, a win against them especially with Pekka Rinne in net means that the goaltender more than likely had a strong performance.

The other sample sizes for this year are small, as they happened when he came in to relieve Sergei Bobrovsky against Carolina and Tampa Bay, however he was able to stop all shots in a total of just under 42 minutes of play between the two games.

Korpisalo has a winning record this season, however much of the season it had been deceiving showing that he had performed better than he truly had. Going forward it seems as if Korpisalo has somewhat found his groove and may get back to being the goaltender that fans expect him to be.

It’s difficult to tell just how good he can be going forward as he’s certainly a streaky goaltender, however many fans are still holding out hope that he’ll be a starting goaltender going forward. While that remains to be seen, Korpisalo is at least showing promise that he can return to his play from a few years ago.
