The Columbus Blue Jackets top goal scorer continued his hot streak with his second hat trick of the season.

The Calgary Flames handed the Columbus Blue Jackets a devastating 9-6 loss last night. The Jackets led 4-1 early in the second but imploded and allowed five straight goals and never saw the lead again.

Although there isn’t many bright spots in a loss like that, there was one fantastic story that came out of last night’s game. Cam Atkinson shined with his second hat trick of the season.

The three goal performance set the Columbus Blue Jackets franchise mark with six such performances in a Jackets sweater. It was Cam’s second three goal performance in only eight games with a hat trick coming on November 17th in Carolina.

The three goals extended Cam’s point streak to 11 straight games. In that stretch Cam has 13 goals including a goal in seven straight games to start the streak. He also has tacked on six more assist for 19 points during the run. Thanks to the run, Cam has also taken the team lead in points from Artemi Panarin. Atkinson has 30 points while Panarin sits at 29.

Cam is two games short of tying the franchise record for consecutive games with a point which stands at 13 games by Ryan Johansen. He will have the chance to tie the franchise record at home on Saturday against the Washington Capitals and break the record Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Cam’s streak has been built on his incredible goal scoring prowess that has him just two behind Patrik Laine‘s 21 goals for the league lead. His 30 points have him tied for 20th in scoring as well.

While there wasn’t a ton of good to come from last night’s game, Cam’s impressive goal scoring was fun to watch. He is on pace for well over 50 goals this season which would destroy the franchise record. Although it’s tough to see his shooting percentage stay around 19%, he should easily get to 40 goals with the hot start to the season.
