Columbus Blue Jackets: Korpisalo Makes Big Saves, Not Many Saves
Joonas Korpisalo is likely running out of chances with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Columbus Blue Jackets backup goaltender has made some big saves, but his lack of ability to consistently make saves is going to be the downfall of Joonas Korpisalo.
His stats continue to get worse as the season progresses and as a pending restricted free agent after this season, if it continues he may be gone after the year.
With his goals against average just under 4.00 and a save percentage of .875, the goalie who seemed at the start of the season like the best one on the Blue Jackets, has fallen off the face of the Earth statistically.

Oddly enough Korpisalo is still undefeated in regulation, however with his current stat line each game risks ending that lucky streak.
His last two games have been overtime losses however, against the New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks.
In his last five games, Korpisalo has given up at least 3 goals in every game. Giving up four against New York, Buffalo and St. Louis. Not to mention the Detroit disaster which could have winded up much worse for Korpisalo if he hadn’t been pulled after 13 minutes in favor of Sergei Bobrovsky.
With Elvis Merzlikins and Veini Vehvilainen tearing up their respective leagues this season, it’s no surprise that Korpisalo’s future is looking hazy with the Blue Jackets even if Bobrovsky leaves after the season.
While the future may look shaky for Korpisalo, unless he continues to regress it’s unlikely he’ll be replaced during the season. If he continues to let in three or more goals in every game however, expect the Blue Jackets to look for a backup at the trade deadline.
While under performing may be an expectation of Blue Jackets teams of old, it’s not acceptable anymore from the playoff regulars.
