After giving up three early goals, The Columbus Blue Jackets offense pushes the Detroit Red Wings to the brink, but fall just short of a comeback 5-3.

After battling back to tie the game at three, the Red Wings scored with three minutes left to seal the victory.

The Jackets turnovers killed them leaving Korpisalo alone with Red Wings forwards Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha. The Jackets forwards waited till the third period to start producing much need offense to spark the team’s momentum. But it was all too late.

Overall Thoughts:

This team just isn’t playing to the level they should be defensively. The offense has to consistently bail this team out, scoring at least four goals per game.

Eventually the offense will go cold and the defense will be holding this team back. While the team has been able to amount huge comebacks in the later periods to win hockey games, the Jackets have to figure out how to start strong. Tonight, the Wings we’re just too much for the defense to handle.

Impressive Players:

Josh Anderson: Nice rebound on the goal

Markus Hannikainen: Great spin move, on fire tonight.

Ryan Murray: Starting to find his game

Pierre-Luc Dubois: Offensively making plays, great goal.

Disappointing Players:

EVERYONE DEFENSIVELY

Seth Jones: Bad turnovers and the decision to dive on a breakaway hurt the chance to stop it.

What to Look for Moving On:

The biggest takeaway from this game is Korpisalo getting the nod for a third straight game even though Korpisalo got pulled after giving up three quick goals. This still shows the Jackets have given Korpisalo the opportunities to become the full-time starter.

Next. Columbus Blue Jackets Minding the Metro: Spooky October. dark

To start the year the defense has looked abysmal and no netminder is going to be able to stop multiple breakaway’s and shorthanded opportunities that the Jackets continually give up. This team needs to work on possession badly. The Jackets consistently give up a few goals due to bad clears or sloppy turnovers.

The Jackets offense continues to roll; the defense continues to be their Achille’s heel.
