#1: F, Trey Fix-Wolansky

  • Drafted: 2018 7th Round, #204 Overall
  • Born: 5-26-1999 Edmonton, Alberta. 19-years-old
  • Team: Edmonton Oil Kings, Western Hockey League

Seventh round pick Trey Fix-Wolansky has dominated the first month of the WHL season. After a great prospects camp and rookie tournament, Fix-Wolansky returned to Edmonton and was named the Captain of the Oil Kings. On top of trying to take his game to the next level, the newly minted captain is trying to take the Oil Kings to the playoffs for the first time in three years.

His October is exactly the start both he and the Oil Kings dreamt of. Trey is second in the very deep WHL in scoring through 17 games. With 11 goals and 21 assist, Fix-Wolansky’s 32 points have helped lift the Oil Kings to second in their division.

Fix-Wolansky’s start has caught the eyes of many and he was named to Team WHL ahead of the Russia-Canada series. That will be a big showcase for the 19-year-old who is a long shot to make Team Canada’s World Junior Championship squad.

Fix-Wolansky is still several years away from the NHL but his hot scoring start is a great sign for a seventh round draft pick who are generally just long shot gambles team’s take. The Columbus Blue Jackets have to be excited to see Fix-Wolansky dominate and lead his team to a great start.

The Columbus Blue Jackets farm system has been impressive to start the year and it made it tough to get a list to five. Let us know who we ranked too high or too low in the comments.
