Columbus Blue Jackets: Beginning of Bobrovsky’s Downfall?
The goaltender has been one of the Columbus Blue Jackets’ worst players to start the new season.
Sergei Bobrovsky is off to a terrible start for the Columbus Blue Jackets and there’s no signs of improvement coming any time soon. Is this the beginning of the downfall of the two time Vezina Trophy winner or is it just an outlier in an otherwise phenomenal run?
With Joonas Korpisalo right behind him in terms of playing time, it seems as if the long time starter is in danger of losing his games played advantage. John Tortorella and goaltending coach Manny Legace have been smart seeing what they have in Korpisalo for future reference by giving him more playing time this season compared to past seasons.

It could simply be a mental block because of the lack of certainty in his future, but it could also be his workhorse nature finally catching up with him.
It seems unlikely that Bobrovsky would let a mental block get in the way of his play in a contract year which will determine his livelihood for the next few years and possibly until retirement. Especially considering last time he was in a contract year, he had a fairly decent season and proved his worth.
Bobrovsky certainly knows some information that the fans don’t regarding his future status as a Columbus Blue Jacket which could be adding some pressure to the now 30-year-old. Time is no longer on his side for the rest of his career, and Bobrovsky certainly knows that.
With unrestricted free agency pending on the horizon, Bobrovsky’s future in Columbus is gloomy at best, especially based on his body language and verbal language to start the season. Even if Bobrovsky’s future doesn’t lie in Columbus, none of the Blue Jackets fans want to see the fan favorite fail in his future ventures.
