Columbus Blue Jackets Demolished in Lackluster Performance in Boston
The Columbus Blue Jackets were handed their second 7-2 defeat in four games last night by the Boston Bruins.
Embarrassing is really the only word to describe the performance from the Columbus Blue Jackets last night. In their first game against the Boston Bruins this season, the CBJ got smacked up and down the ice. No area of the team performance brought the least bit of optimism and has half glass full people wondering what is going on with this team.
After a low energy first period, where the Jackets gave up one goal, the team came out in the second with less energy. They lost most puck battles and looked terrible on the PK. The reliable kill allowed two second period power play goals and the Bruins extended their lead to 3-0. After two periods the Columbus Blue Jackets had been outshout 28-14.
The third period opened slowly with no scoring until Josh Anderson put in an incredible pass from Alexander Wennberg eight minutes into the period.
Then from there it went all downhill. The Jackets just gave up after Danton Heinen‘s goal four minutes later making it 4-1. The floodgates had been burst open and the Bruins poured on three more goals in the subsequent five minutes extending the beating to 7-1.
A late power play goal from Seth Jones made the score 7-2 in what will be remembered as one of the worst losses the Jackets in memory. The onslaught of the Bruin attack was demoralizing and tough to watch as the Jackets gave up.
Back End Fails
The Jackets have been let down by their forwards multiple times this season. But the CBJ have never had to worry about the back end letting them down. That was until tonight. Yes, Savard and Johnson have had poor games but the entire blue line was a drag on the team tonight. Everyone from Zack Werenski to Scott Harrington made glaringly bad plays that led to this crushing defeat.
Even Sergei Bobrovsky played poorly. He hasn’t been a sharp lately and that is likely due to him starting the last eight games straight and the last 16 of 18 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Some Positive Notes
- Josh Anderson added to his team leading goal totals. He now has 13 goals on the season.
- Markus Nutivaara continues his impressive season in point totals. He had an assist bringing him up to 12 points on the year. He has more points than Cam Atkinson, Boone Jenner, and Matt Calvert.
- Pierre-Luc Dubois had his first NHL fight against fellow rookie Charlie McAvoy.
The Jackets only have a day off as they return to Columbus to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
