Through 13 games there are enough statistics to where we can start taking a look at the Columbus Blue Jackets season through some numbers.

The only statistic that counts in the minds of the Columbus Blue Jackets is the 18 points the team has accumulated through 13 games. To them, you can throw out the rest of these numbers and metrics I’m going to throw at you.

First off, I don’t like the term “advanced statistics” but its what people call these stats.13 games gives us a statistically relevant number of contests to start pulling data from to look at corsi, expected goals for and PDO. And all of these numbers paint a great picture for the future of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

All numbers are from Corsica.Hockey which is a fantastic website. If you aren’t using it already, you’re missing out.

Corsi

Corsi is basically a measure of possession. It is a measure of the shots one team has relative to their opponent. The idea is if you have more shots than your opponent, you have the puck more often. The average is of course 50%.

The Columbus Blue Jackets corsi sits at 54%. That is good for fourth best in the league. As much as Jackets fans want to see more shooting from this team, the numbers say the Jackets are doing just fine.

The fantastic possession numbers are a great sign for the Jackets and a big reason why they are off to their best start in franchise history.

Expected Goals For

This number is one of the best stats for fans who are disappointed in the Jackets start. First off if you are one of those fans, stop. Enjoy this. And second, the Jackets have a 57% expected goals for percent. The Jackets should be potting more goals then they are right now and that should terrify future opponents.

That is good for second only behind the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton fans can look to this number and have some optimism that their season will turn around soon. Jackets fans should look at this number and think how scary good this team can be when it gets it really rolling.

These numbers are among many that show that the Jackets are a really good all around team. They are balanced and honestly, underperforming with a 9-4-0 record.
