Columbus Blue Jackets Lines when Boone Jenner Returns

DENVER, CO - DECEMBER 01: Boone Jenner
DENVER, CO - DECEMBER 01: Boone Jenner

The Columbus Blue Jackets are still without Boone Jenner. When he returns, who plays where?

The Columbus Blue Jackets are off to a 4-1-0 start without one of their better forwards in Boone Jenner. He is still recovering from a vague “upper body” injury. Jenner has been out since training camp and he still has no timetable.

Boone will eventually make a return though. And he will return to a team that has been and continues to shuffle lines. Jenner’s return will make the lines continue to shift. What will the line combinations look like with #38 in the lineup? His presence will certainly settle the shake line situation the Jackets currently have.

The lines are constantly in flux and John Tortorella has not found any combination he really likes outside of Cam Atkinson Alexander Wennberg Artemi Panarin on the top line.

Nick Foligno and Oliver Bjorkstrand seem to be attached as well as Brandon Dubinksy and Josh Anderson. Lukas Sedlak is the forth line center no matter what. Other than that, there are four wing spots and five players that are constantly being shuffled.

Jenner is a second line winger in terms of talent level and the best looking home for him is alongside the Captain and Bjorkstrand. Jenner on the third line with Dubinksy and Anderson makes the most physical line in recent memory. That just doesn’t seem that likely to me.

Although it sounds crazy, Jenner could end up on the fourth line. Dubois-Sedlak-Jenner is a possibility we could see. They would likely get the same time on ice as the third line as that is a formidable fourth line. It would be a solid place for Jenner to get his feet back underneath him as well when he returns.

Any line that Jenner ends up on will be a team improvement for the Jackets. I fully expect Jenner to be closer to the 30 goal machine we saw in 2015-2016. His presence on any line will be welcomed with open arms. I think he ends up on line two with Foligno and Bjorkstrand.
