Columbus Blue Jackets: Top 5 Fighters in Franchise History
The Columbus Blue Jackets have sucked for a large part of the franchise’s history. Usually, a team that dwells at the bottom of the standings table takes shots at opponents out of frustration. The Jackets have been no exception.
The CBJ have played over a decade and a half of hockey in the NHL, and they have had plenty of fights in that time. Many of them were fought by two brutes that we know and love, but there have been some other frequent fighters that you may have forgotten.
#5 – Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre
Coming in at the fifth spot is Montreal-born Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre. If that isn’t the most Montreal-y sounding name, I don’t know what is.
JLGP played most of his NHL career with Columbus. Of his 269 games, 202 of them were played in a Columbus Blue Jackets uniform. And in those 202 games, Grand-Pierre tallied 21 fights according to HockeyFights.com.
His grittiness and love for Columbus made him a fan favorite in the early days of the organization’s history. Although he’s been gone from the team for many years now, we still love JLGP and we still love watching his fights.
#4 – David Ling
David Ling is not a very known figure in CBJ history, and for good reason. He only played 93 games in the NHL and 90 of those came as a Blue Jacket. Scoring only eight points in Columbus, Ling is definitely not known for anything except his fighting.
Although he only finished with single-digit points, David Ling fought 23 times as a part of the Columbus Blue Jackets. That’s really all I know about him,so let’s watch him drop Jarkko Ruutu.
#3 – Derek Dorsett
Derek Dorsett played five seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets and ended up getting into 60 fights in that time.
He was eventually traded to New York in the lockout season but Dorsett will be remembered for his scrappiness and his incredible fight against Daniel Carcillo.
#2 – Jody Shelley
Oh, Jody… I love you.
You’re so tough, so rough, so violent. Just the perfect goon to be honest.
Jody is probably the best fighter that the Blue Jackets have ever seen considering he’s one of the best fighters in the history of the NHL, but we’re just ranking these off of the amount of fights that they had with the CBJ.
Jody had a whopping 119 fights in Union Blue and most of the time, he kicked ass. I miss him.
#1 – Jared Boll
Like Jody, I love Jared Boll. Both are such good guys that played such bad guys on the ice. They could mess anyone up and they could motivate their team with their fists.
Boll has the most fights in CBJ history and it’s not even close. His 154 fights is just incredible. I wish he was still here, but he makes too much money to be just a fighter.
