#4 – Fedor Tyutin

Fedor Tyutin was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in 2001 in the second round. Tyutin played with the Rangers for four seasons before being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a deal that sent Nikolai Zherdev the other way.

When the Blue Jackets traded Zherdev, it looked like it was just a dump to get rid of an unhappy player, but this trade worked out in a huge way for the Blue Jackets. This was because Fedor actually found his game in Columbus and became an unsung hero on and off the ice.

Tyutin played eight seasons in Columbus as a mainstay on the blue line. He was stay-at-home defenseman that was able to chip in on the offensive end, but he was anything but an offensive juggernaut.

Tyutin’s Time in Columbus

The defenseman tallied 185 points (sixth in CBJ history) in 553 games (second in CBJ history) on the back end for Columbus. These numbers do not jump off the page, but these are great numbers for a shutdown defenseman that did a hell of a job on the back end.

The Columbus Blue Jackets were given a steady hand defensively and a leader to push their team. Tyutin was a member of the Blue Jackets’ first two playoff teams.

Columbus should be grateful for the time that Tyutin spent with the Blue Jackets because he was a large contributor for years when the franchise needed it. Tyutin was also a great member of the Blue Jackets in the fact that he did not create any waves when the Blue Jackets went through rough patches.

Tyutin meant a lot to the Blue Jackets franchise and is on this list for his contributions throughout the years. Fedor was bought out by the Blue Jackets prior to the 2016-2017 season. This was a tough decision that Columbus had to make with the game speeding up, and Tyutin beginning to slow down in production. The Blue Jackets had a true gem in Tyutin and he deserves some praise.
