#6 – Cam Atkinson

Just two years ago, it was rumored that the Columbus Blue Jackets were interested in trading Cam Atkinson. Fortunately, they did not, and the 2017 NHL All-Star lands at #6 on our list.

When you think of Cam Atkinson, you probably think of two things: Speed and goal scoring. These two skills, in particular, have allowed Cam to rise up the ranks of the greatest players in Blue Jackets history. His ability to find a way to improve each year in the NHL is also a major reason why he is in the number six spot in our countdown.

Atkinson has flourished ever since the arrival of head coach John Tortorella. At 28 years old, it wouldn’t be crazy to expect a few more elite seasons from Cam. In 382 NHL games, the Boston College product has compiled 227 points. He currently sits at fourth for points scored in franchise history, behind only Rick Nash, David Vyborny and R.J. Umberger. Trailing only Rick Nash, he is also second in goals scored in franchise history.

Not only does Cam Atkinson contribute, he makes big plays in big games. He scored nine game-winning goals last season, including three overtime winners.

A former sixth-round pick, Atkinson did what every player drafted late dreams to do. He capitalized on his opportunity with the Columbus Blue Jackets and now looks much better than just a 157th overall pick.

In the years to come, expect Cam to keep climbing up lists like these if he keeps up his pace. After a long journey, Cam Atkinson is one of the greatest players in franchise history.
