This is a true story. On Friday, while I was at the market, I heard a terrible but unmistakable sound of someone throwing up behind me. Well, people came to her aid and a poor soul was called to clean up the mess. The very next day, as my family and I were going into a restaurant, 10 seconds before we got to the door, a kid puked up her chili cheese dog and side-by-side vanilla and strawberry shake. Good thing kids eat free on weekends at the Steak N Shake…How did I know what she ordered? Please…you don’t need to be a detective.
So why all the tossing of cookies and such in these parts? Flu season hitting the Ohio valley hard? Is fate trying to get me and come up short thus far? Is it my new perfume? Could it have something to do with the NHL trade deadline? THATS IT!!!!
…And some people think hockey isn’t followed closely…
So, I’ve had my own bouts with nerves of late with the deadline. By the time this is posted, we’ll be very close to close of trading business…and if you’re a Jacket fan like me…you’ve held your breath. We all know trades have to happen. To help the team and players find the right place, andvenue. It’s business. It’s smart. However, it doesn’t feel good sometimes.
I just heard like 20 minutes ago that Rusty Klesla, the last remaining original Jacket will go to Phoenix. Two of their players will now wear the Union Blue. I can’t and won’t stay pissy for long. It’s a good trade. And those guys are Jackets now…but, I need a moment to be a bit nostalgic and soothe my loyal (CBJ) soul. He is the last original…and the very first Jacket. That means something. To me, to all the fans and to all the people who wake up every day and clutch the sheets and thank God that the NHL landed in Columbus, and out of that came our beloved Blue Jackets…and Rostislav Klesla, the very first one.
Listen, I’m not immune one way or the other. Getting rid of players who don’t want to be here or aren’t fitting in or whatever, that’s fine….sometimes, you gotta move on. But other times, it hurts a bit. I hope I fall in love with these uh, former Coyotes. I’m already liking the Sabre captain who landed in our organization a few days back. But, I’m a True Union Blue at heart…once a Jacket, always a Jacket.
Unless you’re Adam Foote and then you can find a spitting cobra to play with. Make it a damn gaboon viper or a black mamba…what the hell? How about a sea-snake?
Trade deadline ends today…more to follow.
