Not much was thought of the CBJ when they signed undrafted goaltender Jet Greaves to an entry level contract in 2022. His statistics in the OHL were average and there was no obvious reason why the team signed the young goaltender.
But obviously a team scout saw something in Greaves that compelled the team to sign him. That scout may have been on to something.
At the beginning of the season, everyone knew that Jet was destined to be the #1 goaltender for the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL. He had a fantastic season in Cleveland, registering 30 wins and a 0.910 save percentage.
That breaks that record for most wins in a single season by a goaltender in Cleveland Monsters history. He was 2nd in the AHL in total wins and earned a spot in the AHL all-star game this season. He had the best season of his career and many in the organization took notice.
He was called up multiple times throughout the season to play for the CBJ. He appeared in 9 games and looked good in those 9 games.
While his NHL statistics were not flashy (0.908 save %, 3.49 GAA), he kept the team in every game he played, and he looked like a goalie who is ready for full-time NHL action.
Jet will be a restricted free agent this summer and the new general manager will more than likely sign him to an extension.
The question will be the type of contract: one-way or two-way. Does the new management see him as a full-time NHL goaltender next season? Or do they want him to still be the #1 goalie in Cleveland and get the first call-up when an injury arises?
Jet had a historic season in the AHL and has put himself in a position to be a full-time NHL goaltender. Jet was arguably the 2nd best goaltender for the CBJ this past season. He gets an A- because of his stellar play for Cleveland. We couldn’t give him an A because his play in Columbus was good, but not as good as in Cleveland.
