Dante Fabbro did not start with the 2024-25 season with the Blue Jackets. He started with the Nashville Predators and was picked up off waivers on November 10th, 2024. At the time, the waiver claim looked like a depth move for the CBJ defense. However, the change of scenery led to a revival of Fabbro’s career, as he found instant chemistry with the team and played very well.
Fabbro was placed on the top pairing with Zach Werenski and never looked back. Playing with Werenski helped Fabbro settle in with the new team and gain confidence. That elevated his game as the season progressed. The two played well together and formed a formidable top pairing for the CBJ.
For the 2025-26 season, I expect to see Fabbro paired with Zach Werenski again on the top pair. If injuries occur or someone plays better, Fabbro should still find a role in the top 4 of the defensive unit.
Depending on the power play format chosen by the coaching staff (3 forwards, 2 defensemen or 4 forwards, 1 defenseman), I would still expect Fabbro to see some power play time this season. He will definitely play on the penalty kill and will be expected to play against the top players from the other teams.
Fabbro signed a 4-year deal worth $4.125 million per season. He is now signed through the 2028-29 season. This is a solid contract, both for the player and the team. The player gets some stability (prior to this contract, he was signing short-term deals) and a bump in pay. The team gets a steady, right-shot defenseman at a moderate cost (most top RHD are signing for $6 million or higher). As the salary cap increases over the coming seasons, Fabbro’s cap hit will not be that significant for the CBJ.
One bold prediction: Dante Fabbro will score more than 40 points this season.
Almost instantly, Fabbro found chemistry with Zach Werenski. As the season progressed, Fabbro’s game really gelled, and he looked like a top 4 defenseman. Playing a full season with Werenski, I expect Fabbro to have more offensive opportunities due to the creative play of his defensive partner. Assuming Fabro can stay healthy, I think he can easily increase his point production from 26 points to 40+ this upcoming season.
Fabbro will be a mainstay in the top 4 (likely the top pairing) for the CBJ defense this season. His well-rounded game will be put to the test in all situations for the CBJ.
