Columbus Blue Jackets: Zac Dalpe at the Sengler Cup and AHL All-Star
The Columbus Blue Jackets best forward in Cleveland, Zac Dalpe is having quite a run with his participation in the Spengler Cup and now, AHL All-Star Game.
The Columbus Blue Jackets AHL affiliate is having a solid run in their first season in the Eastern Conference. A shakeup in the league alignment has bumped the Cleveland Monsters over to the East and whether its the new league with shorter travel or just a newfound drive, the move has been working well for Zac Dalpe.
The former Ohio State Buckeye has been the Cleveland Monsters best player all year long and it’s starting to catch people’s attention. Although he has only been called up once to the NHL, he was invited and played for Team Canada at the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland over the Christmas break.
Although Dalpe dealt with an illness and missed a game, he still performed admirably in Canada’s second place showing. He had two points in three games for the eventual runners-up who fell in a shootout to another Columbus Blue Jackets prospect, Alexandre Texier, and his Finnish Liiga squad, KalPa.
Upon returning to North America to rejoin the Monsters, Dalpe has been named to the AHL All-Star game for 2019. Dalpe is the Monster’s leading scorer with 27 points in 28 games. His 14 goals and 13 assist are good for a tie for 31st overall in the AHL.
Dalpe has been a driver on a Monsters team that is struggling to score. They have scored the third least goals in the East yet they are third in their division and looking good for a playoff spot. The limited scoring they have got has mostly come through Dalpe.
Zac will be the only Monster to make the All-Star game this year that is being held in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 28th. It will be the first appearance for the Monster’s assistant captain.
