Familiar faces up top but a new crop of alternate captains for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Columbus Blue Jackets announced their captains for the 2018-2019 season. None were a huge surprise, especially at top where the senior leadership of the team remains the same. Nick Foligno will captain the CBJ for the fourth year in a row.
Boone Jenner will also wear a letter for the fourth year in a row. He will be an assistant captain again.
The final two assistant captain spots were in flux last season after a tough year from Brandon Dubinsky. Questions also surrounded who would take the “A” following the departure of Jack Johnson in the offseason. The choices were fairly apparent after these players spent time with a letter last year on a rotating basis.
This year both Seth Jones and Cam Atkinson will serve as assistant captains for the squad during the 18-19 season. Cam and Seth will wear the “A” on a rotating basis throughout the year but both are team leaders whether they have a letter on their chest or not.
Cam is now the longest tenured Blue Jacket and is a key leader on this team.
Jones has stood out with his play on the ice and how he leads the defensive corps as well. Especially when it comes to dealing with Torts.
Last year, he stepped in at a time during the year when Zach Werenski wasn’t playing his best and told Torts he’d take care of it. Z had a solid year and it turns out he was dealing with a much more debilitating injury than anyone imagined.
Jones is seen as the captain of the future for the Columbus Blue Jackets organization but let’s not get to far ahead of ourselves. Nick Foligno has been the best captain in team history and still has plenty of games ahead of him in union blue.
