The Columbus Blue Jackets 2018 7th round pick had a great Traverse City tournament where he scored five points.

As our prospect expectations series nears a close, we come to an exciting prospect that has started out his season on fire. The Columbus Blue Jackets 7th round pick from this season has already been named captain of his WHL squad and is in the top five in scoring in the league.

Trey Fix-Wolansky is an undersized winger at 5’6″ but punches well above his weight. The shorter, stockier right shot winger has shown he can play physically in a tough league like the Western Hockey League.

Trey was drafted in the 7th round in the second draft he was eligible for. Following an 89 point year for the Edmonton Oil Kings, Fix-Wolansky showed the Jackets his skill in the Traverse City tournament. He racked up five points goals in four games, good for sixth best, as the Jackets took home the tournament title.

Fix-Wolansky was among the players cut early from camp and unfortunately didn’t get to take part in a preseason game for the Jackets. That’s because he was needed in Edmonton as the Oil Kings kicked off their 2018-2019 season.

Trey was announced as the captain of the Oil Kings as they look to get back into the playoffs for the first time in three years. Last year, the Oil Kings were the worst team in the league despite the impressive season from Fix-Wolansky that clearly caught the eyes of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This year, as a leader on the team and with some valuable training under his belt from the time in Columbus, Trey should be in for a huge season. He is already off to a hot start with six points in three games.

Fix-Wolansky should break the 100 point mark this year for the Oil Kings while working toward building out his frame a bit more. Gunning for a spot in the AHL next year would be a good target for the winger.
