In their annual offseason position rankings, the NHL named Sergei Bobrovsky as the best goalie in the NHL.

The Sergei Bobrovsky news keeps coming in late August, just not the news of him signing a reasonable contract extension. Today the news of Bob’s spot in the NHL Network’s summer position rankings broke with Bob exactly where you’d expect him to be.

Sergei Bobrovsky is the best goalie in the NHL right now and the NHL Network recognized that in their last ranking. After ranking Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, Artemi Panarin, and Cam Atkinson too low, the finally nailed the spot for the Jackets net minder.

Bob is the only active goalie with two Vezina trophies and he has another prime opportunity to add his third this year. Bob is in the final year of his contract and will be physically and mentally prepared to have the best season of his career.

More from Union and Blue

Bob has racked up 78 wins over the last two seasons as well as a staggering .926 save percentage. He stands out amongst the field in the regular season with impressive durability and consistency that has led to Bob starting in 128 games over the last two years.

The NHL Network clearly decided that Sergei Bobrovsky’s regular season performance far outweighted his troubles in the playoffs. Although he played much better in the postseason this year Bob still plays noticeably worse in the postseason. This year against the Capitals a lot of the blame can be put on the Jackets skaters who forced Bob to face an incredible amount of shots as the Jackets took far too many penalties in the series.

Another Bob-like regular season and a postseason series win would cement Sergei as the top goalie in the NHL. Here’s to hoping that he can produce another Vezina quality season in the 18-19 season.
