It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Columbus Blue Jackets finally lose an overtime game.
Folks in central Ohio might be a bit groggy this morning after staying up to watch last nights game. The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Washington Capitals played late into the evening and ended in double overtime thriller. But not the thrill the 19,337 fans at Nationwide Arena were looking for.
The double overtime game ended with the Capitals winning their first game of the first round series. Lars Eller netted, quite frankly, a lucky goal midway through the second overtime to give the Caps the 3-2 overtime win.
The Jackets once again had to come back from a deficit. Not once, but twice, to tie the game at two in the third period to force overtime. The Jackets had plenty of opportunities to seal the deal in regulation but couldn’t convert.
Columbus Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets hit three post during regulation and were 0-3 on the power play. They added another post and failed power play in the first overtime.
Bob Continues to Dominate
The missed opportunities in regulation and overtime was a waste of spectacular performance by Sergei Bobrovsky. 42 saves and only two goal at even strength. It was another playoff performance from Bob that should quell the idea that he can’t perform in the playoffs.
Bob has a .925 so far in this postseason including two 40 plus save performances. His 42 saves last night should have been enough to give the Jackets a 3-0 series lead. But the Caps found a way to stop the Jackets offense and held them to two goals.
Game three ended up lasting 50% longer than a regulation game which should bode well for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Game four will be on Thursday in Columbus where the Jackets will have a chance to rest at home and regroup while the Caps deal with being on the road.
The electric atmosphere was the perfect setting to for the Jackets to take a commanding lead but the Caps found a way to hold off the Jackets. Game four will be critical if the Jackets hope to move on to the second round.
