While the Columbus Blue Jackets were enjoying the All-Star break, several prospects had huge weekends.

With only the NHL All-Star events going on last weekend, there was plenty of time to watch some junior hockey. Columbus Blue Jackets prospects all over the world played exceptionally well on this weekend with no NHL games.

Lets start with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where the Columbus Blue Jackets have two stud scorers playing. Vitali Abramov continued his scoring pace by posting one goal and two assist in Victoriaville’s two games over the weekend. He is second in scoring in the league with 61 points in 37 games.

Not to be outdone, fellow CBJ prospect and QMJHLer Maxime Fortier had a stellar weekend. In two games Fortier had three goals and four assists. The captain of the Halifax Mooseheads now has 56 points in 45 games this season.

The two wingers are second and seventh in the league in scoring. They both are likely in their final year playing in Quebec.

Ontario Hockey League

Central Ohio native Kole Sherwood had a great week as well for the Kitchener Rangers. Sherwood had eight points in three games including a hat trick agains the Saginaw Spirt. He also added an assist in that performance. He was an honorable mention for the OHL player of the week.

Sherwood has started to turn his season around after a midseason slump. He now is up over a point per game pace with 41 points in 38 games. His Kitchener Rangers are the team with the best chance of stopping the seemingly unstoppable Soo Greyhounds from reaching the Memorial Cup.

NCAA

Carson Meyer, another central Ohio native and Columbus Blue Jackets prospect, had a solid weekend for his Miami Redhawks. Meyer has had a somewhat disappointing season thus far but seems to be taking a turn for the better.

Meyer had two goals and added an assist for the Redhawks in a 4-4 tie at Colorado College. Fellow central Ohioan and older brother of Kole Sherwood, Kiefer, had four points on the weekend.
