Columbus Blue Jackets Lose Sonny Milano in Toronto Win
As if the Columbus Blue Jackets didn’t already have enough injuries.
Halfway through the Columbus Blue Jackets comeback win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Andreas Borgman laid a big check on Sonny Milano. A team that is already dealing with a rash of injuries now has one more forward to worry about.
Sonny immediately left the ice following the legal hit near the bench. He did return for one more short shift but then left the bench and headed to the locker room. The Columbus Blue Jackets finished the rest of the comeback victory without the young goal scorer.
The check clearly caught Sonny by surprise. The semi blindside hit sent him straight to the ice which is quite an unforgiving surface as many are finding out this morning in Ohio as folks take some slick walks to work or class.
The injury is being called an “upper body injury” by the team and they announced during the game that Sonny would not return. Following the game there was no update on Sonny’s status from Coach John Tortorella. This according to Steve Gorton of the Columbus Dispatch.

Schoerder Fills in for Sonny
With Sonny out of the lineup, fourth liner Jordan Schoerder was given more ice time against the Leafs. Jordan had a solid game up to the third period where he shined with his extra ice time.
Schoerder’s aggressive play and defensive play saved the Jackets more than once. He surly impressed Torts with a great hustle play to neutralize what was going to be a 2-1 scoring chance for the Leafs in the third period.
In addition to that, he potted his first goal of the season (sort of). In a goal that is currently credited to Nick Foligino, Schoerder sparked the comeback with his goal at 15:25 in the third. The correction will come soon and proper credit to Jordan will be given.
He also had a great shift in the overtime period where he blew by every Leaf and registered a great shot on net. The scoring opportunity was just one of three shots on net he had for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Sonny’s injury is another piece of adversity this team must clear on its path to the playoffs. Zac Dalpe has been traveling with the team and it’s still unknown if he will be needed to play in place of Sonny.
