The net-minder reached win number 200 in the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars.
The only active two time Vezina trophy winner reached his 200th career win last night in the Columbus Blue Jackets victory over the Dallas Stars. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 21 of 22 shots last night as the defense helped him to a milestone victory in Texas.
Sergei Bobrovsky joins 19 other active goalies who have reached the 200 win mark in their career. He will likely pass Steve Mason and Brian Elliott by the end of this year if Bobrovsky stays healthy.
He is the second youngest active player with 200 wins as only Braden Holtby has won more games than Bob. The Washington Capitals goalie is almost exactly one year younger than Bob and has 10 more wins in his career.
Bob racking up wins at a great pace. Plus, he finally has a squad in front of him that is significantly better than he has ever played behind so the wins should keep coming.
Bob in Elite Company
Of course his place on an active win list is distorted because he has so much time left to go in his career. Sergei is just entering the prime of his playing days. Barring in juries he should have another six years of above average play in front of him. Add in his elite level of physical fitness and his off-season’s dedicated to keeping his body in perfect condition, he could play into his late thirties.
In terms of save percentage amongst active goalies his is fifth. He only trails Tuukka Rask, Cory Schneider, Braden Holtby, and Henrik Lundqvist. He only trails Lundqvist by .0002 points too. He is top 20 in shutouts as well.
It will be great to see Holtby and Bob duel it out over the years in the Metro Division. Because as of now, its between those two and Carey Price for the spot of top goalie in the world.
