After missing a big road trip, the Columbus Blue Jackets are getting Cam Atkinson back!

Cam Atkinson is set to return to the CBJ lineup for tonight’s contest against the Nashville Predators. After a tough three game road stint, this is welcome news as the Jackets skate into Nationwide Arena this evening for their second of back-to-back games.

The 28-year-old forward, who has been out the past four games with a lower body injury, has been a steadfast contributor to the offense over the years, and has opened this season with similar production. Not only has Cam’s offensive impact been missed, his veteran leadership has left a void amongst the very young roster.

The Jacket’s disappointing loss to the New York Rangers last night at MSG, primarily due to the inability to kill a power play, displayed the team’s need for Cam’s seasoned play and composure. Although he doesn’t play on the penalty kill, he does bring veteran leadership and bumps the overall level of play up for the CBJ.

Where Cam Ends Up Playing

Cam Atkinson has bounced around, just like everyone else, from line to line. He seemed to play the best and feel most at home with Brandon Dubinsky at center and Boone Jenner on the other wing. That would make sense to go back to tonight.

Ideally Cam gets more than just two shifts there as well before Torts changes everything up. Some time with the same guys and building some familiarity would do Cam well as he gets his legs back underneath him. But Torts will do what Torts wants to do. If he isn’t happy he will shake things up. And those changes could come faster after the disappointing performance last night.

Next: Staring Down the Barrel: Predators

The Jackets are getting healthier and getting Cam back should help keep up with the firepower the Preds have. Cam coming back and Artemi Panarin scoring last night should ignite tonight’s offense, and the cannon too!
