The Columbus Blue Jackets may have won 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday, but fans still were not pleased on social media due to some poor officiating.

In the third period of the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets matchup Tuesday, the referees missed a huge penalty call on Jeff Skinner just moments before he scored the game-tying goal to force overtime.

With just over a minute and a half to play in regulation, Skinner took CBJ centerman Lukas Sedlak out of the play with a collision near center ice. Immediately after, Markus Hannikainen attempted to get the puck out of the CBJ zone, but Skinner caught it in mid-air, threw it down to the ice and fired it past Sergei Bobrovsky to tie the game at one apiece.

As you can see, the hit definitely interfered and impeded the defending Sedlak’s progress. This is as clear-cut of a case of interference that the refs will get in a game usually yet they missed it Tuesday. That penalty would’ve put the CBJ on the power play and essentially ended the game as Carolina would’ve had to pull the goalie again to even have a even-strength offensive push.

“But wait, there’s more!”

The refs missed another call in the game that was immediately followed by a goal; this one coming in overtime. And the CBJ were the offenders on this as Alexander Wennberg would’ve been thrown into the penalty box.

The young Swede looked to be slew footing in OT right before Sonny Milano sprung free and buried the game-winner at the other end of the ice. Twitter was not happy as you might imagine.

The Blue Jackets probably would’ve ended up winning the game regardless, but it’s always going to be a bad look to slew foot someone. Wennberg isn’t a dirty player usually though, so I don’t expect this to be a recurring theme.

Either way, stay classy on social media.
