Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been selected as a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy. The award is annually given to the NHL’s most valuable player.
With the selection, Sergei Bobrovsky becomes the first Columbus Blue Jackets player to be named a finalist for the award in team history. Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid and Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby are the other two finalists.
Bobrovsky is also a finalist for the Vezina Trophy, an award for the league’s best goaltender. He has already won a Vezina in his career, snagging the hardware after the 2012-2013 season. In that lockout-shortened year, he finished 21-11-6 with a 93.2% save percentage, 2.00 goals against average, and four shutouts.
This season’s stats have been somewhat similar, finishing the season with superb numbers. His stats included a 41-17-5 record and league-leading numbers in save percentage, goals against average, and goalie point shares. He also sported a career-best seven shutouts.
Forwards Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid join Bobrovsky as finalists after having incredible seasons themselves. Crosby led the league in goals, points created, goals per game, goals created per game, and offensive point shares. McDavid was a leader in several categories as well, including assists, points, points per game, assists per game, and expected plus-minus.
The winner of the award will be announced on June 21 in Las Vegas, NV at the NHL Awards Show.
