The Columbus Blue Jackets are dealing with a recent string of injuries. Young stars Zach Werenski and Lukas Sedlak have or will miss considerable ice time. 2014 First round pick Sonny Milano has been called in to fill the recently created void.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have been hit with a series of injuries to a few of their young studs. This past Friday in Chicago Lukas Sedlak left the game with an apparent lower body injury. Zach Werenski left Sunday’s game against the Capitals with an upper body injury after taking a hit from Alexander Ovechkin. Tom Reed of the Columbus Dispatch reported that Werenski is day-to-day and Sedlak is week-to-week.

To fill the gap and add some depth to the forward group, the Jackets have recalled 2014 first round pick Sonny Milano from Cleveland. The American winger has had an impressive season up in Cleveland going 16-27-43 in 59 games played. No one should expect the world from this kid, especially when you consider the circumstances of his call up. Milano getting some experience in highly contested games as the season draws to a close will only help his development.

Reed is also reporting that Milano will play against the Pens on Tuesday. With Sedlak still missing time and Bjorkstrand possibly being close to coming back I think Milano will find a role in the bottom six somewhere next to William Karlsson. I also believe Milano has a chance to stay up with Columbus for multiple games, and if he does well, contend for a spot during the playoffs.

The Monsters are charging into the playoffs right now and need to finish strong to have the chance to defend their title. If the front office was concerned with Cleveland’s playoffs they would have brought T.J. Tynan back up and let Milano carry the Monsters to the Calder Cup but that isn’t the case.

The boys upstairs see something in Sonny that might help the big league team in Columbus. Right now it seems he’ll get every shot to prove himself. He failed earlier this season to find a spot on the squad much like Bjorkstrand. Let’s hope he follows in Bjork’s path and returns a changed player.
