This week at E3, the premier electronic gaming conference in the country, EA held their presentation and shared a video of NHL 16 game play.
Earlier on this site we talked about some of the dream features we hoped would end up in the game for Columbus Blue Jackets fans. Now that EA Sports has released some new information let’s look at what we can really expect to see with the Columbus Blue Jackets in NHL 16.
THE CANNON:
Without EA sports saying so explicitly I have come to the point of fully expecting the cannon to appear in the game. On the game’s website it mentions how the game is going to have “landmarks” from the arena’s and lists as an example the “Lighthouse” at the Xcel Energy Center in Minnesota. If that is included in the game that I would expect the cannon to have made the cut. The cannon gained fame beyond Columbus Blue Jackets fandom during the All-Star Game as the whole league either enjoyed it or were terrified by it.

STINGER:
During the video and in promotional images for the game we see several mascots. The mascots, as well as the teams, shown are either from Canadian or larger American markets so we have not seen digital Stinger yet. For a game that is in promotion stages this makes sense. If you have been paying attention though in some national commercials and NHL promotions Stingers seems to get front and center of the mascots quite often. (Read about how awesome Stinger is here). Stinger is unique in the world of mascots and hopefully is included in the game.
THE 5th LINE
During the Columbus Blue Jackets playoff appearance the 5th Line Banners started to hang around the arena. Fans started wearing “We Are the 5th Line” T-shirts and the great “C-B-J!” chant really took on a life of its own. I would love to see some of these elements that are things you only see at Columbus Blue Jackets games find their way into NHL 16.
