Ohio Hockey News Roundup: 12/26/2013

Here at the Union and Blue, we are committed to covering the Columbus Blue Jackets and bringing you the latest news and opinions about the team. The Blue Jackets are not the only hockey team in Ohio and in the Ohio Hockey News Roundup we will provide a quick overview of the latest news in Ohio hockey. The primary focus will be the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL, the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL, and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, as well as any interesting news at the NCAA level.

Lake Erie Monsters

The Monsters had two games against the Rochester Americans leading up to the Christmas break. They won the first game (Friday, December 20th) 1-0 in a shootout. They followed that up with a 3-2 OT win. Rochester is proving to be a big rival for the Monsters this year. Lake Erie has two games scheduled against the Chicago Wolves this Friday and Saturday in Cleveland.

Ohio State

Ohio State men’s hockey will finally be back on the ice this weekend for the final non-conference match up of the season, two games against Mercyhurst. The first game will be Saturday at 7:05 PM and the second game is Sunday at 8:05. Both games are in Columbus.

Toledo Walleye

Toledo had three games leading into the Christmas break. They took on the Evansville IceMen on the road last Wednesday, and lost 7-3. They were able to bounce back with a 2-1 win Friday against the Kalamazoo Wings. In the second game against the Wings, Kalamazoo was able to overcome an early 1-0 Toledo lead, to win 2-1. Toledo takes on the Fort Wayne Komets in Fort Wayne tomorrow night, and then they have a home match up against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday.

Cincinnati Cyclones

Cincinnati went 2-1-0 in the last three games leading into the Christmas break. They lost 2-1 in OT last Tuesday to the Kalamazoo Wings. They then had a big 5-0 shutout win over the Elmira Jackals last Friday. They then followed that up with a 5-4 OT win over Elmira the following night. The Cyclones take on Evansville tomorrow night and the Toledo Walleye on Saturday.
