McElhinney has been a journeyman goaltender during his NHL career, spending time with 4 different clubs before joining the Blue Jackets. At age 30 he has only played in 69 NHL games, and has a record of 19-26-4. Last season he had a great year with the Springfield Falcons though, playing in 49 games, and winning 29 of them. So far this season he has not played in any games, but is expected to be the guy to back-up Bobrovsky when needed.
