What is odd about this phrase is that there is no known origin. It is known that it was used by Violet Fane in her poem Tout vient qui sait attendre. The title of the poem is French for “all things come to those who wait.” This is the first line her poem as well.
Is is thought that she took a popular phrase of her time (1843-1905) and used it in a poem. Her poem, in full, reads, “‘Ah, all things come to those who wait,’ / (I say these words to make me glad), / But something answers soft and sad, / ‘They come, but often come too late.'”
Well, yesterday I lamented that the assistant coaches had not been put under contract, and WHAM!! it happened. There is being a lot written about their backgrounds, So I’m just adding a few tidbits.
The headliner of course is Craig Hartsburg, a past NHL coach, and ex blueliner. But there is a little item that caught my eye about the 2nd individual, Keith Acton. Both are experienced as players and coaches. The item that caught my eye about Keith was, ” He became known as one of the best faceoff men in the NHL” . This source is The Legends of Hockey. After the Blue Jackets traded away a lot of high percentage faceoff players and considering they have some young great potential centers, this facet could really help the Jackets in the future.
Certainly we have changed the Blue Jacket coaching ranks. Going from young, relatively in experienced coaches to grizzled veterans. It almost seems like we’ve hired some no BS experienced guidance and control to again change the aura of the team and the dressing room. And rather than identifying with the young players, give them wisdom and guidance as well as demanding the respect of the older veterans .
