Let’s talk about fire.
There’s all kinds of fire. The kind that keeps us warm and bakes our brownies and makes our lovers look beautiful across a small dinner table in a nice restaurant and our children look magical as they hover over a birthday cake.
As for building a fire, I know of a few different techniques. The Boy Scout, which is to make a tee-pee out of the sticks and such…The Survivor, banging a rock against flint and hoping like hell you get a spark. There’s also something out there called “The Married Dude” fire, which simply involves washing dishes or saying something nice…the fire starts almost immediately, I’ve been told.
But how do you build a fire in an arena with a hockey team? This seems to be the Question of The Day for CBJ folk. Not just where’s the fire, but how do you get one started in the first place?
Let me tell you…we had Fire and plenty of it leading up to this season.
"I’ll just say this right now…for all the carrying on I do, I don’t think James Wisniewski is the end all be all of the Blue Jackets. But I do think that having something as severe as his 8 game suspension to lead into the season did effect everything…from line-ups (obviously) to atmosphere, and morale. From players to fans…"
I saw it doused a bit after Wiz was put on a very lengthy vacation. Our enforcer was introduced in street clothes and a casted broken thumb on opening night….another splash on the flame.
I’d like to recommend to the Blue Jackets that they look in the mirror and see what we see….a talented team that could not only be competitive, but could kick some ass, if only they would. I’d like the team to care about this as much as we (the fans) do. I only wish they took it as seriously as we do and felt it like the rest of us…right in the heart.
Doesn’t mean it can’t happen. The time is now.
May I suggest:
The Boy Scout: Build up a decent defense…solid power play
The Survivor: Strike like mad…shots and more shots….
The Married Dude: Just let us know you care…we’ll love you for that.
We’ll keep the home-fires burning….
Blue Jackets meet the Red Wings tonight in Detroit.
