Union Blue Fans Aren’t Going Anywhere…

"…I interrupt my regularly scheduled Around The NHL In 30 Days to respond to a story out today on Yahoo! sports, The 12 Major League Teams Running Out Of Fans…"

More on the Blue Jackets decline, says the line…

…and of course they use a picture of our Rick Nash falling…all I have to say to that is…just wait, you bastards…

The season hasn’t started…there’s a new deal to secure Nationwide Arena and keep the Jackets in place…there’s been big-time trades.  The mood around Columbus is electric…and they’ve washed up The Union Blue before the first regulation puck hits the ice…unbelievable.

Take this blog that I do…you think I’m the only one?  Columbus is saturated with fan bloggers.  Look at the recent fan-centered activities around Columbus:  There was Cannon Fest, a gathering of bloggers and fans…it was crowded and energetic and tripled in size from last year.  The most recent Fan Fest held at Nationwide (the marketing blitz-“official” thing intended to bring fans, new and die-hard into the arena…also plenty of PR stuff going on)  This too was a success…I’m not sure who is getting what information and where…I’m not sure if they’re just going on ticket sales but I will say this:

It’s Ohio.  You can throw a tennis ball and hit someone struggling financially.  Keeping the lights on trumps buying tickets at the moment.  Some of us have waited until the last minute to get tickets if we can.  We love our team but if we can get a bargain with ticket packages, great.  Even better…the lights stay on and we can still have some hockey love by taking advantage of last minute deal.

I really don’t care what this story says…I’m a fan and I know the real deal.  We all do.  “They” can say what they want and assume what they will.  They just don’t get it…the time has come and our Beloved Union Blue is near it’s zenith.  The fan-base has never been stronger and interest and enthusiasm never higher.

Some higher end ticket holders may have jumped ship…I understand what that means so far as business is concerned.  They weren’t real fans anyway…those same people will be back in droves once it’s clear the Jackets are “solid” and a playoff threat.  But I can’t believe the growth in the regular fan-base can’t be seen by everyone.  This story is upsetting…and it’s just not true.  “Fans” aren’t leaving the Jackets…just ask the official and non-official booster clubs of the teams…I happen to be new members of both.

Those of us who love the team unconditionally will always be here…
