So, what happens if all our CBJ dreams come true this year?
What if kinda-sorta, loads of potential, hasn’t-yet-come-to-flower talent finally does blossom? And, instead of waiting for everything to gel and come together…what if it’s there already?
What if…we start winning. What then?
The days of the elbow room at Nationwide Arena would be over, as all the fair-weather fans would suddenly show up. Filling the Arena is never a bad thing. But when the team starts winning and suddenly EVERYBODY is a Jacket fan, that pisses me off. Like a family member who took on the role of caregiver, some of us have been here when NHL hospice was called…we held vigils and almost had to call the priest…we were here. We stayed and went nowhere…
Without a doubt and sometimes hoping against hope, plenty of us have stayed. Through jeers and insults and flat-liner games, we’ve stayed.
When the wins start adding up all rapid-fire, will we be punch-drunk obnoxious or will we stay cautiously happy and reserved, having always been the caregiver and needing to remain sensible?
Will we allow our (very scarred, overly tortured, NHL seasonal depression/playoff hopes) hearts to enjoy this?
The cannon crew may just run out of powder. The Huntington Green seats may not be the best-kept secret for a cheap seat at Nationwide. When our house fills up again after the win-fest starts, those of us who remained thru the oxygen times will rejoice in all of it. And why not? We were the caregivers…a big part of the reason for recovery.
