It’s Fat Tuesday…
Are you using up all the lard and eggs in the house because they’re forbidden until Easter? Indulging in the last few cheeseburgers for awhile? If you’re a Jacket fan, you may be thinking Lent is already here. No meat, no sweets, no indulging and no wins. Lent has been a go for the entire road trip: Lots of abstinence…absence of stick handling, goals and taking advantage of open nets…do we have to wait until Easter for a really good puck? Hey, I’m not gonna lie. I’m like everyone else. A good puck is very freeing. Lack of pucking can make things frustrating. This must be NHL Lent.
See, the way Jacket fans thought things would go, is a carnival of sorts on the road…at least a few (more) points…a hockey indulgence of wins to load up the standings. Lots of food, travel and pucking. Instead, we got Lent. Early. If we put a rub-on tattoo of Stinger on the foreheads of all the Blue Jackets on Ash Wednesday, could we turn this thing around? How about gun powder from the cannon? Is that sacred enough? Would it matter? A”JHM” smudge of cannon powder residue on every forehead from players to Rimer to ice girls to fans…
If the boys paraded outside Nationwide Arena, and if all the Jacket faithful threw beads, maybe we could turn all this around. We’re on the cusp of the season of light and darkness (sheesh, tell me about it) and you never know the miracles that can happen. It’s all about the rituals. See, we get the lads out there in the street drunk and acting stupid, pretty soon the uniforms come off, in appreciation we toss beads. Because of all this (some how…) we can start praying real hard and getting down to acting like decent fans and players and get holy about the playoffs (but not before I see some Moreau hiney…) reward them for getting naked in front of us with cheap plastic necklaces (I plan on being in front of Dorsett and Garon) and we’ll all be happy…
I think we’d all be happy with a regulation win. But if I got to see some hiney, that’s alright too…just sayin’, and I’d even throw beads.
Oh, the boys lost to the damn Blues last night and I’m very unhappy about it. I wanted to see Rivet beat the crap outta Oshie (I would have settled for a lesser Blue…really) and that didn’t happen. If I can get out of my Fat Tuesday Funk, Tuesday Timbits will be up this afternoon…
