Busy week again, busy one ahead…I’m glad I’m getting some blade maintenance…
The Union Blue held their own with the games this week. We’re still in this, but at this point in the season and how close the teams are, moving up or down may not depend on your numbers, but everyone else’s. I have a feeling in the next coming weeks especially, it might be Maalox with Mylanta chaser nights for some of us. We can only watch and hope. It’s the NHL…
Working Out Like A Player…
Still working out…and well. Since I’ve started all this, as I said last Sunday, the habits are forming and the mindset is changing. Is everthing perfect? Well, hell no. But I have enough of a good foundation that I know I’m on to something. Has the scale moved? Nope. Do I care? Nope. I’ve dropped a size, gimme a week and it’ll be two…things are happening. I like feeling stronger…the looking better is just a nice benefit. I’m still working on drills and balance moves. Since the article in the local paper, people come up to me and make “grrrrrr” noises and pretend to be muscle men and pump their fists at me. They are being supportive…I know this. But I can’t tell you how many people have punched me on the shoulder: at church, the market, the local JC Penney’s and the movie theatre. I guess they think since I’m working out like a player, I’m always looking for a good scrap. Really, I’m not. I doubt if Jared Boll and Derek Dorsett go to the market and get tagged on the shoulder…but I could be wrong. Thank you for the love, everybody…you could shake my hand or high-five me if you want…
Dropping The Gloves…
I’ve had a few of those this week. The Kings decided to stay regally quiet and not dance, but the Stars and Blackhawks were fun and worthy dance partners. My new friend over at Blackhawk Up has been a most respectful opponent and will be featured on his and my site sporting his new sharpie tat (cannon) as per our friendly wager. Tim’s a great guy and like most Blackhawk fans, he’s got balls and will follow thru. Many thanks to the Jackets for pulling off that win so I didn’t have to get Chief Blackhawk sharpied across my heart or shoulder…really guys…THANK YOU…
Ethan Learns About The Parent-Penalty…
My Ethan is a mini-mite with the Newark Generals. He loves it, breathes it and like all the other little dudes who play hockey, he learns something new every time he hits the ice. He boarded some kid last week. It wasn’t an accident, it wasn’t a mishap…he just did it. It wasn’t pay-back for some little something this kid did, unbeknownst to all of us. Ethan just decided to hit in the numbers. Well, he had to sit out for a few rotations (as per the Parent Rule…mine and my husband’s rules for the EHL…that’s Ethan Hockey League) and my husband even put in a call to Toronto concerning this incident (I wasn’t there, so Toronto would be Me…) And we all had a big meeting and discussed sanctions.
One of the other team Dads told us not to “shut down” Ethan’s passion, because then, he’ll start playing like a…PUSS in boots. ( I changed it…figure it out) I have nothing against passion…but so long as I have something to do with the lad and his hockey, he’ll find his little ass in the Parent Penalty box for a hit like that. I don’t want to grow a dirty player. I don’t want to over-react and shut something down, either. For now, as per Ethan’s contract, he forfeited his Steak n Shake benefits for two games and got to watch everyone else enjoy hot fudge sundaes…A quote from that gathering: “These Sundaes are great…say, Ethan? What in the heck were you thinking when you hit that kid?” Ethan says, watching everyone dig in to ice cream…”I just felt like it” and to that, Toronto responded, “Well, kid…how’s it feel now?”
I’d love any advice…I’m a hockey parent novice. I’ve got a long ice-covered path in front of me.
