Most Columbus Blue Jackets prospects are still in training camp but a few have started their season – and with a bang.

The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect pool is thin this year. The team will have most of its up and coming players in Cleveland this year so this weekly post might be more of a “Monsters Watch” than anything.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will start October with only two players in the CHL, five in the NCAA, and the rest will play in Europe or Cleveland. The NCAA season picks up in early October so for now we only have a few players to report on.

After being an early cut from Columbus Blue Jackets training camp, Trey Fix-Wolansky returned to his WHL squad, the Edmonton Oil Kings. Fix-Wolansky was quickly named captain of the squad and started his season out right.

In his first two games for the Oil Kings, Trey scored one goal and racked up four assist. He is currently tied for second in scoring across the entire WHL.

Over in Europe a few of the Jackets recent draft picks started their season’s as well. 2017 4th round pick Emil Bemstrom is off to a strong start for Djargardens in the SHL. Through three games the 19-year-old has three goals. Bemstrom may soon be joined by fellow Jacket prospect Jonathan Davdisson if Davidsson doesn’t make the NHL squad.

In the SuperElit, Sweden’s junior league, 2018 third round pick Marcus Karlberg is off to a fast start. Albeit against inferior competition, Karlberg has put up seven points in four games. Karlberg should soon find himself in the Allsvenskan competing against men.

The Jackets 2nd round pick from this year, Kirill Marchenko, started his season in Russia in the MHL, Russia’s junior league. Like Karlberg and Bemstrom, he is off to a good start with seven points in six games, including this absolutely filthy goal. Marchenko is one of the top three most promising players in the Jackets system and it would be great to see him progress to the VHL or KHL at some point this year.
