Wednesday night, the Columbus Blue Jackets put on an Expansion Draft and NHL Awards watch party at the Bluestone.

Columbus Blue Jackets fans and faithful have a lot to look forward to in the future and last night’s watch party put all of that excitement into one place.

I have only been to the Bluestone on one other occasion and that was was for a concert a couple years ago, so I was somewhat unsure of what the atmosphere of the watch party would be. But it did not disappoint.

Fans of the Blue Jackets came out and were ready to cheer and boo. The atmosphere was electric throughout the night. When Sergei Bobrovsky’s face came onto one of the various screens the fans went crazy. When Bobrovsky was announced the winner of the Vezina Trophy, the roof came off the building. Fans went nuts chanting at the top of their lungs and high-fiving and hugging each other. This was quite the spectacle to see.

The fan in attendance had a similar reaction to coach John Tortorella winning the Jack Adams. The fans in attendance love the head coach with everyone hanging on his every word from his acceptance speech and pre-awards show interview.

While the fan did not get only good news with Zach Werenski falling short in the Calder voting, and Sergei Bobrovsky falling short in the Hart voting, but the fans still showed their support cheering anytime their faces his the screen.

The Lows

While the night was a night of highs, there were some lows. When it was announced that William Karlsson was going to Vegas the place went quiet. Karlsson is a fan favorite, so it was a tough pill to swallow for many fans.

Blue Jackets fans have a lot to look forward to in the future. For their sake, hopefully, there will be a watch party earlier in June for a much bigger trophy.
