For the first time in franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets have a pair of 40 point scoring d-men. Seth Jones and Zach Werenski become the first duo to top that mark in franchise history.

With a goal against the Washington Capitals, Seth Jones has broken the 40 point scoring mark for the year. He joins fellow Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski in the 40 point club.

This marks the first time in CBJ history that a pair of defenseman have both broken the 40 point mark in a season. Jones, with a bomb from the circle following an onslaught of shots against Braden Holtby, has broken the 40 point mark for the first time in his career as well.

The Jackets tandem become the first set of defensive teammates to break 40 points across the NHL this season. The duo has a chance to continue this impressive feat for many years to come. Seth Jones is only 22-years-old and Zach Werenski is only 19.

Seth Jones Flourishes in the 614

Many questioned the trade of Ryan Johansen to the Nashville Predators for Seth Jones last season. Johansen was a legit number one center who had broken 60 points in the previous three season. Jones on the other hand, was on a great trajectory but hadn’t come close to what we are seeing this year.

Jones has not only been a shutdown defender, but a prolific scorer and fantastic leader for this team. Pair his play with the emergence of Alexander Wennberg as a number one center and the Jackets have certainly won this trade.

To put it in perspective, Johansen has exactly one more goal than Jones this season. One. Jones has topped the 40 point mark for the first time in his career. With his contract running until the end of 2022, and no way Jarmo lets Werenski leave, this talented duo should be a 40 point pair for years to come.
