Union and Blue would like to wish CBJ defenseman Scott Harrington a happy 24th birthday!

Scott Harrington was born on this day 24 years ago in Kingston, Ontario. Harrington is a young yet talented blue liner for the Blue Jackets, formerly of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Scott was drafted 54th overall in 2011 by the Penguins but was traded to Toronto in the deal that would move star forward and eternal meme Phil Kessel to the Steel City. The young defenseman was then traded to Ohio’s capital last June.

Harrington has played 39 career games in the NHL, scoring his first and only goal in a 7-6 overtime victory against the Ottawa Senators earlier this year. Most of his ice time this season came when defenseman David Savard went out with back spasms.

Despite his inexperience in the NHL, Harrington has shown promise in his OHL and AHL play. Starting out in the OHL at the age of 16 with the London Knights, he totaled a positive 21 +/- or better in three of his four seasons with the team. He also totaled 81 regular season points in his time there. In his two full seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL, he totaled 36 points and a positive 28 +/-.

I feel there is a quite a lot of promise with Scott, still being relatively young, but he needs more ice time if he is to hone his skills. Therefore I think some time in Cleveland with the Monsters would probably be very helpful for him. Putting him in the AHL would also add another hard-nosed defenseman to Cleveland’s roster.

Nonetheless, we hope Scott has a great day and we look forward to watching him continue to improve!
