After starting the season 0-2, the Columbus Blue Jackets get a point in three straight games.

The fans of the Columbus Blue Jackets began to panic again after such a slow start, but the team was able to ease the tension after winning two straight against Chicago and Dallas respectively and then getting the point in an overtime loss in Los Angeles

With the Blue Jackets starting off 0-8 to start the season last year the pressure to come out of the gate hot was higher than it has ever been in Columbus. This response goes a long way, but fans can not read too much into it.

Three Stars

In all five of the Blue Jackets games, there are two players that have to be mentioned, rookie defenseman Zach Werenski, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, and captain Nick Foligno. These three have been a cut above the rest.

Werenski is someone who had a lot of expectations, but he has played out of his mind in his first five NHL games. Werenski is tied with Alexander Wennberg and captain, Nick Foligno with 5 points. Along with putting up gaudy point numbers, Werenski has played a lot of poise on the defensive end. If his play remains this solid, he should be considered for the Calder Cup, but it is way too early to crown him yet.

Along with Werenski, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been quite the force in net. The Blue Jackets first two losses could not be pinned solely on Bobrovsky who has been made some miraculous saves in all five games. Sergei was an absolute stud in the World Cup of Hockey and has ridden that momentum into the season. If he can remain healthy, the Blue Jackets will be in enough games to contend for the playoffs.

With Nick Foligno, last year is a season was a year that he would want to forget after following up a career-high 73 points with only 37. The team needs more out of their captain, and he seems to be moving in the right direction. Foligno having a good start calms the nerves of Jackets fans.

Last Three Games

On Friday against the Blackhawks, the Columbus Blue Jackets claimed their first win of the season. This came down to special teams, and Columbus was on fire scoring on both of their power plays while killing all four penalties of the road. Special teams can keep a team in a game and the Blue Jackets dominated special teams.

On Saturday the Blue Jackets played their first road game of the season in Dallas. This was also their first back to back situation, but they lived up to the test out skating the Stars. Along with this Sergei Bobrovsky got his first shut out of the season stopping all 32 of the Stars shots. Bobrovsky also claimed his 100th victory in the Jacket’s net.

Lastly, the Blue Jackets played late last night against the Kings with a strong start, but it seemed that the Kings had an answer for the Blue Jackets sending the game into overtime after they tied the game up with 6 minutes left in the third sending the game to overtime. In overtime, Alex Martinez scored ending the Jackets winning streak but getting a point out West is huge.

The Blue Jackets stretch these last three games have been impressive, but the NHL season is 82 games long, so there will be ups and downs. The Jackets have showing they can play a complete game should make fans in Columbus excited to see where this team goes especially with Bobrovsky healthy so far.
